Match Preview | Brechin City v Turriff United - By Steven Mew

City will be looking to build on a positive showing at Deveronvale in midweek as we play host to Turriff United in the Breedon Highland League tomorrow afternoon.

The 3-0 victory in Banff, coupled with a first clean sheet in 17 outings gave supporters plenty cause for optimism as City head into a busy schedule which includes a crunch fixture against Brora Rangers next weekend.

All eyes however will be on tomorrow's match against a Turriff United side that ran City close in the last meeting, with Brad McKay netting the only goal at the Haughs.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without Anthony McDonald and Craig Tosh whilst Euan Spark continues his recovery despite being named on the bench on Wednesday evening. It is hoped that Lewis Milne, who has missed the last two matches through injury, will return to the squad.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Speaking to the Club's media team for the first time since his return, Interim Manager Ray McKinnon commented, "Brechin has a place in my heart and I had a great time in my first spell here so it was a massive draw for me to help out from now until the end of the season.

"We'll do our best to help the team and try to get them over the line. It's going to be a real challenge but it's one we are looking forward to.

"I know some of the people at the Club along with a few of the players including Ryan Ferguson who I managed in my first spell here - Ryan is a lovely lad and I know him inside out and it was great to see him at training on Monday."

Speaking on the 3-0 win over Deveronvale in midweek, Ray said, "We kept a clean sheet first and foremost, scored goals and created plenty of chances. I thought the application of the players was very good in tough conditions and overall I was very pleased with the performance. It was a real positive to keep a clean sheet as I learned after the game we hadn't kept one since October so we're heading in the right direction hopefully.

"The first goal in particular was fantastic, it was a great pass from Kieran Sweeney and the touch from Marc Scott was outstanding and the delivery into the box for Cillian was great. That's the positive way that we want to play until the end of the season."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Turriff United 0-1 Brechin City - 5th October 2024
A first goal in Brechin colours for defender Brad McKay was enough to earn all three points at Turriff back in October and in turn extended City’s unbeaten start to the Highland League season.

It was a game that City dominated, but had to dig deep against a hard-working Turriff United side with home keeper Lee Herbert in inspired form.
