Match Preview | Brora Rangers v Brechin City
- By
Steven Mew
In what is undoubtedly the biggest game of the season to date, City will make the near 400 mile round trip to face Brora Rangers for a 1st v 2nd clash.
Although there may well be twist and turns still to come, there is an air of significance about tomorrow's fixture which will have a huge bearing on where the Highland League title will end up come April.
TEAM NEWS
City will hope to welcome one or two bodies back from injury for tomorrow's match but will be assessed in the lead up the game. Euan Spark, Anthony McDonald and Craig Tosh are likely to continue to miss out.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back to last weekend's last gasp victory over Turriff United, Interim Manager Ray McKinnon commented, "The players went all the way to the end - we dominated the game and got into good areas but we just didn't convert our chances. We got the goal through Fraser right at the death but it was what we deserved from the game. Credit to the players for believing right to the end that we could get the win."
New signing Mitch Taylor, who had only signed hours before kick-off, put in a man of the match performance. Ray added, "I know the type of character and player Mitch is and I knew what he would bring to the team and he gave us that in abundance on Saturday. He brought incredible energy down that left hand side and that was incredibly important for us.
Looking ahead to the crucial fixture against Brora tomorrow, he said, "It's a big game, there's no doubt about that. Hopefully the players are feeling good about themselves after the way we won last week. You can tell just by looking at the league table where Brora's strength lies - they've scored a lot of goals and our concentration will have to be spot on for the whole 90 minutes and we cannot afford to switch off. In the last couple of games we have controlled things and limited the opposition to very few chances and hopefully we can do that again on Saturday"

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-2 Brora Rangers - 12 October 2024
In front of an excellent crowd of 763, the Highland League top 2 shared the spoils in an entertaining encounter earlier in the season. Marc Scott opened the scoring after just 5 minutes with a perfectly weighted lob, however James Wallace equalised for the visitors on 36 minutes. Fraser Macleod restored City's advantage early in the second half but a fine finish from substitute George Robesten earned a point for the Cattachs 9 minutes from time.
