Match Preview | Inverurie Locos v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

City now head into six 'cup finals', starting with the relatively short trip to face an in-form Inverurie Locos side at Harlaw Park tomorrow evening.

Ray McKinnon and his side will undoubtedly travel up the road full of confidence following an impressive 2-0 win over Brora last week which saw them go back to the top of the league.

However, they will be under no illusions as to the task in hand as they come up against a Locos side that are enjoying a fine season and go into the fixture off the back of 8 straight wins.

TEAM NEWS
City welcomed back skipper Euan Spark to the squad last weekend, meaning Anthony McDonald, Craig Tosh and Kevin McHattie will be City's only definite absentees tomorrow night.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the crucial victory over Brora Rangers on Saturday, Interim Manager Ray McKinnon commented, "It's a tough place to come and Brora were top of the league on goal difference before we went there. They are a good side with a good manager so we were delighted to go up there and get the 3 points.

I thought we were excellent in the first half and we were certain Brora would come at us in the second half but we put in a polished performance and we didn't have to chase the game. It was a lovely pass through to Ewan from Cillian for the first goal and it's taken a ricochet from the clearance. The second goal was excellent from Ewan and I think that was what we deserved from the first half.

Brora needed to come at us and we just needed to soak up a bit of the pressure - they are a good side and deserve to be up near the top of the league and they will continue to make it difficult for us between now and the end of the season. Brora score a lot of goals in this league so to come away with a clean sheet was very good.

"These are big games and you need your players to embrace it and not shy away from it. Our players were great in terms of commitment and attitude. The last 3 games have been very competitive and I expect the next 6 games to be the same. I'm sure there will still be twists and turns yet this season but we've given ourselves a chance and hopefully we can maintain it.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-1 Inverurie Locos - 9th November 2024
Brechin City progressed to the second round of the Highland League Cup following a narrow 2-1 victory over Inverurie Locos in November.

It was a close, competitive and hard-fought encounter which City just deserved to win. Ryan Ferguson, playing his first full ninety minutes following a lengthy lay-off from injury, scored the opening goal with substitute Dayle Robertson adding a second goal in the 75th minute.

Locos reduced the deficit through Mark Souter a couple of minutes later and shortly afterwards City were reduced to ten men with referee Joel Kennedy showing a straight red card to Robertson after an incident with Souter in the visitors penalty-box.
