Match Preview | Brechin City v Cove Rangers - By Steven Mew

City head into their final Premier League Cup group stage fixture tomorrow evening as we play host to Cove Rangers (7:45pm kick off).

Although City are already knocked out of the competition, Ray McKinnon's men will undoubtedly want to end the group stage on a high whilst also continuing to build up match fitness ahead of the league starting against Lossiemouth this coming Saturday.

Cove Rangers will head into the game knowing that a win would give them a realistic chance of progressing into the knockout stages of the tournament, having defeated Spartans in the opening fixture before picking up a creditable point against Falkirk on Saturday.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without Dayle Robertson, Ben Armour and Fraser MacLeod and they are joined on the sidelines by Mitchell Findlay who is suspended after picking up his second booking of the group stage on Saturday. Bayley Klimionek is close to a return, having been part of the matchday squad on Saturday against Spartans.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-3 Cove Rangers - 22 July 2023
The sides met in this very competition at the Carnegie Fuels Stadium exactly two years ago. Despite taking the lead twice in the game, City were edged out narrowly by the Aberdeen side. Grady McGrath opened the scoring on the half hour mark for City, only for Mark Reynolds to lash home an equaliser 4 minutes later. Shortly before the break, Ewan Loudon restored the lead for the home side when he converted a penalty.

That's the way it stayed until the 73rd minute when Kyle Connell pulled Cove back level again and 9 minutes from time, the same player struck again to earn all 3 points for the visitors.
