Match Preview | Inverurie Locos v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

City will be aiming to bounce back from last weekends defeat against Fraserburgh as we make the relatively short journey to Inverurie tomorrow afternoon.

Ray McKinnon's men will be eager to get their title challenge back on track at a venue that hasn’t been a particularly happy hunting ground for City in recent years.

The hosts endured a tough start to the season, but recent Highland League matches have hinted at a turnaround in fortunes. Back-to-back victories and clean sheets against Lossiemouth and Keith will have listed spirits in the Locos camp after starting with just one win in 10 games.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without Dayle Robertson and Brad McKay and they are joined by Finlay Allan on the sidelines after picking up an injury last weekend. After his sending off last weekend, Cillian Sheridan will sit the game out through suspension.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the game against Fraserburgh last weekend, Manager Ray McKinnon commented, "The conditions weren't great and the wind played a part in the game. The standard from both teams was pretty poor, there wasn't much quality in the game and we lost the game to an own goal which was disappointing.

"We probed and we got into some good areas but we never really created enough and Fraserburgh were similar. It was an even game but we've come out in the end with a poor result.

"The sending off put us behind the eight ball and made it much more difficult for us but to be fair we changed the system with 3 up top and kept trying towards the end of the game.

"It was a bit of a missed opportunity given it was the only game on in the league but there's a long way to go and we still have to play everybody. Hopefully we don't have to play in those kind of conditions again. It's not an excuse but it wasn't great for either side."

LAST TIME OUT
City slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Fraserburgh last Saturday as Dugald Farquhar's own goal proved to be the difference between the sides. Inverurie's scheduled fixture against Strathspey Thistle last weekend fell foul to the weather, with their last game coming against Sauchie in the Scottish Cup as they went down 2-0 at home to the East of Scotland Premier Division side.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Inverurie Locos 1-0 Brechin City - 19th March 2025
In a tightly contested Highland League match at Harlaw Park, Inverurie Locos came out on top in the last meeting as they dented City's title hopes. The decisive moment came in the 27th minute when Milosz Ochmanski drove a shot into the roof of the net. It was an evening where City never really got going as the home side deservedly held on for all 3 points.
