Match Preview | Brechin City v Dundonald Bluebell - By Steven Mew

Brechin City welcome Dundonald Bluebell to the Carnegie Fuels Stadium this weekend for what promises to be an intriguing Scottish Cup Second Round tie and notably, the first ever competitive meeting between the two clubs.

City will be looking to build on back-to-back wins over Inverurie Locos and Wick Academy against a Bluebell side currently sitting 8th in the East of Scotland Premier Division.

Despite operating in a lower tier, Dundonald will arrive in Angus looking to make things difficult for Ray McKinnon's men as they also eye up a place in the 3rd round of the competition. They progressed to this stage thanks to a 3-2 victory in extra time over Lowland League outfit Civil Service Strollers.

The visitors’ squad features several former Brechin players, namely Scott Costello, Ross Brown, Finn Graham, and Fionn McLeod-Kay.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without the services of a number of players, namely Dayle Robertson, Brad McKay, Euan Spark, Dugald Farquhar, Adam Hutchinson and Craig Tosh. City are however boosted with a return of Harry Craig.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at the win over Wick Academy last weekend, Manager Ray McKinnon commented, "It was a good result and the victory was important. I thought the performance was ok but always think we can do better. We should have scored more goals and I was obviously disappointed to concede - for me we can't be doing that but overall it was a good performance.

"With Euan Spark out injured, Adam Hutchinson pulling up in the warmup and Brad McKay still to come back, it wasn't ideal defensively as we are a bit light there now but Marley (Sweenie-Rowe) and Bayley (Klimionek) both slotted in and done well. It was a very inexperienced back 4 but I thought they did well.

"It was great that all 3 strikers that were on the park scored in Ben, Cillian and Grady so I'm delighted for them. In Ben's case, he just needs games and the confidence which will come - it's been good to have him on the park and scoring in the last two games and it gives us good competition at the top end of the park."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's cup tie, Ray added, "Dundonald will be a tough game - I went to watch them recently against Sauchie and they played some lovely football and they have some really experienced players in their team. It's a game we are looking forward to and it's a good opportunity to get through to the next round."
