Slick City to the fore - By Steve Mitchell

Brechin produced an excellen display against their local rivals and despite scoring four times, the reds could have comfortably doubled their goal haul.

City created numerous chances with 15 goal attempts on target and should have been further ahead than their 2-1 interval lead. To Forfar's credit, they never threw in the towel and with City conceding a couple of slack goals, it meant that teh scoreline remained much closer than it should have been.

Brechin opened the scoring after 11 minutes when a delightful Grant Johnson pass put Steven Hampshire free on the right, and his cross was shot home on the near post by Chris Geddes.

City had an escape two minutes later when Darren Gribben shot against the bar and Paul Tosh couldn't fire in the rebound.

Brechin made it 2-0 after 36 minutes when a Stuart Callaghan cross was handled by Gary Lynn and Callaghan stepped up to score his third penalty of the season.

Forfar got a goal back three minutes from half time. John Ward fouled Darren Gribben, and Gribben made no mistake from the spot. At the other end, Kevin Byers sailed past two challenges and tested Sean Murdoch from distance. Then Sean Murdoch had to be alert to block a shot from inside the area.

Forfar were out of luck after 58 minutes when Paul Lunan headed against the bar following a corner. Brechin went straight upfield and stretched their lead to 3-1 when Hampshire cut inside and lashed home an early candidate for "Goal of the Season" from fully 30 yards out.

Bechin should have gone further ahead after 68 minutes. A tremendous four-man move saw Geddes crossed for substitute Iain Russell to hit the bar from close range.

Amazingly, the Loons were back to just a single goal defecit when Tosh powered home a header from a Kevin Webster corner.

City made sure of the points in the final minute. A shot from Kevin Byers was parried by Murdoch and Chris Geddes was on hand to score his second of the game and third of the season.
