Match Preview | Brechin City v Banks O' Dee - By Steven Mew

City head into their final fixture of 2025 tomorrow afternoon as we play host to Banks O' Dee at the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park (2pm kick off).

Although City boast a 100% league record against Banks O' Dee at Spain Park, they are yet to defeat the Aberdeen-based side at the Glebe, having drawn each of the 3 previous meetings on home turf.

Ray McKinnon's side will be looking to ensure they head into the New Year with a victory whilst Banks O'Dee will be looking to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat against Keith which had put an end to an impressive 10 game unbeaten league run.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without the injured Mitch Taylor and Mitchell Findlay, however Fraser Macleod and Ethan Crombie will return to the squad. Following a long injury layoff, Brad McKay came through last weeks' match unscathed.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Following a 3-0 win over bottom side Rothes last week, Ray McKinnon said, "The first half was a bit frustrating again - we had a lot of the ball and got intok good areas but we made the wrong decisions. We gave Rothes something to fight for. We made changes at half time to try something different and be a bit more direct and challenge them a bit more. We brought Finlay (Allan) on the left and changed the shape - the second half was miles better than the first half and we probably could have scored another 4 or 5 goals in the end."

Bayley Klimionek netted his first City goal to round off the scoring with Ray adding, "I'm delighted for Bayley as he's had a tough start here but he's worked really hard and has lost a stone and a half to get himself into the right shape to be in contention. I was also delighted for Brad (McKay) who has been out for around 3 and a half months and he was excellent so that was another positive.

"We're working really hard to identify and bring people in but January is a tricky window. We could do with adding 2 or 3 to the squad, probably experienced players as the squad is very young at the moment."

LAST TIME OUT
City were 3-0 winners over Rothes last weekend, thanks to a second half brace from skipper Euan Spark and a first City goal for Bayley Klimionek. Banks O' Dee meanwhile went down to a surprising 3-0 defeat against Keith at Kynoch Park which brought an end to a 10 game unbeaten league run.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Banks O' Dee 0-2 Brechin City - 13 August 2025
City showed quality and grit in equal measure to come away with all 3 points in the last meeting between the sides in August. The visitors took the lead on 34 minutes when Paul Watson’s incisive pass found Mitch Taylor, who cleverly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper.

Despite Banks O’ Dee pushing for an equaliser, Brechin doubled their advantage shortly after the hour mark. Taylor was again the creator with a dangerous cross that was turned in close-range by Mitchell Findlay.

The home side had plenty of possession but rarely troubled the scoreline, and a few tense moments - including a key block by Dugald Farquhar - kept the clean sheet intact.
