City have further reason to celebrate after the impressive win at Cappielow as three key players have signed along the dotted line and another looks likely to follow.
Everyone associated with Brechin City FC were over the moon after the result against the league leaders on Saturday, and now several of the architects of that win have signed new deals at the club.
Darren Smith, Richard Walker and top scorer Iain Russell have pledged their futures to the club and goalkeeper Craig Nelson looks set to follow.
Darren Smith has been ever present in the squad this season, putting in some fantastic performances and his trickery on the left hand side proves to be a real asset. Darren has made 31 appearances for City this season, scoring 5 goals in the process.
Richard Walker has impressed the manager since signing earlier in the season, and has put in some good shifts on the right.
While Iain Russell had a difficult start to his City career, once he opened his account for the club he hasn't stopped scoring and hopefully his goals will ensure a play-off position at the end of the season. Iain has netted 14 goals in 26 appearances with season, with 8 of the appearances coming from the substitutes bench.
City fans will be delighted if keeper Craig Nelson signs along the dotted line also, as he has been in tremendous form this season and his stunning performance on Saturday proved he is one of the best keepers in the league.
City chairman David Birse has spoken of his delight at the news, which has helped secure the services of some of the 'nucleus of the squad' for the foreseeable future.
He said: "It's good for us at this stage. They make up some of the nucleus of our team and are lads that we really wanted to keep.
"Nelson pulled off some really good saves on Saturday and it looks as if he is going to sign. He hasn't signed yet but he has more or less agreed to, which is good news as he has to be rated as one of the best in the league and is very experienced.
"He and Iain were very important in our win and it's nice to see Iain back on song again. January was a disappointing month for Brechin and for Iain as well, but it's nice to see him back in among the goals again, and he's quite a handful when he's on that type of form."
