In's and Out's At Glebe Park - By Steven Mew

Steven Hampshire
Hampshire- Left The Club

Since the season ended with a 6-1 aggregate defeat to Airdrie in the play-off's on Saturday, Michael O'Neill has been busy in the transfer market as several players head for the exit door while 3 players are on the verge of signing subject to a medical this evening at Glebe Park.

Captain Steven Ferguson and back-up goalkeeper John Hillcoat have both signed for 3rd division outfit Stenhousemuir. Ferguson broke his leg on the first game of the season against Peterhead but he recovered miraculously to be an ever present figure in the centre of City's midfield for the rest of the campaign after he returned in October. Hillcoat meanwhile, has been back-up to Craig Nelson for the 3 seasons he's been at Glebe Park and he has decided to move on to get regular games. Both of these guys will be sorely missed at Glebe Park as they are both tremendous characters with a real passion for the game.

Also leaving the club is Steven Hampshire. Michael O'Neill wanted 'Hamps' to stay but he wasn't able to balance his football with his work commitments. O'Neill said, "He has set up his own business and we knew there was a chance we would lose him. He stays in Dunbar, south of Edinburgh, and it's not the easiest of commutes for a part-time player, especially when he has been doing it for four years." Hampshire joined Brechin from Dunfermline in August 2003 and he played a big part in City's Championship winning season of 2004/05 with 20 goals to his name. He also has the honour of scoring the winning goal in City's first win against SPL opposition in a competitive match when the reds dumped Kilmarnock out the CIS Cup in 2003.

Ross Archibald has also left due to work commitments while O'Neill has not offered new contracts to Scott Devlin, Stuart Ferguson and Steve McManus. Contract negotiations continue with Stuart Callaghan & Scott Walker.

Meanwhile, 3 players look set to join the club subject to a medical this evening. Martin Johnston of Elgin has reached the end of his current contract and it appears that City have beaten a host of clubs to Johnston's signature, but pen won't be put to paper until tonight. Johnston signed for Elgin in June 2005 from Cove Rangers where he scored over 25 goals for them in his last season. Martin was previously with Peterhead in the 3rd Division, netting over 60 in his time there, 2005/06 Division 3 top goal scorer and player of the year. A brave, strong mobile striker who can defend when required and is always a threat at set pieces. He also finished as top scorer of the 3rd division this season with 18 goals in the league, despite playing for a struggling side. Johnston scored 21 goals in all competitions this term. Michael O'Neill is a long time admirer of the 28 year old and he hopes Johnston will bring his excellent record of scoring goals with him.

Adam Nelson of Elgin has also reached the end of his currently contract and like Johnston, looks set to sign for the club tonight subject to a medical. Adam is 22 years of age and joined Elgin from Blackburn Rovers. A player with an outstanding first touch. A midfield player with tremendous vision, Adam epitomises the saying a "silky soccer player". He also gets his fair share of goals and he also has a fine football brain. Like a good wine he will improve as he gets older.

Another player that looks set to sign for the club this evening is Gary Fusco, once again subject to a medical. Gary played for Cowdenbeath last season where he was a regular starter. Gary can play anywhere in the middle of the park and can also play at right back.
