Manager extends his contract - By Steve Mitchell

City manager Michael O'Neill has underlined his commitment to the club by signing a new two-year contract.

The Irishman, who led Brechin into the play-offs last season, was reluctant to put pen to paper until his side had secured their first three points of the season. With those in the bag on Saturday, the manager was delighted to sign on the dotted line.

"I am pleased to underline my commitment to the club. I have a great relationship with the committee here and while we have had a difficult start to the season, I think there is a lot more to come from us this season.

"I always said this was a two-year job. I think that perhaps, given the transition of players we have gone through this summer, we aren't quite where we want to be as yet.

"However, we've now played every side in this division and I wouldn't fear any one of them. There is very little between the sides in this division. I think we have the tools to climb the league table and we're also looking to do well in the forthcoming Scottish Cup.

"The chairman and committee are keen to se us move up the table and I do have their backing to strengthen the squad, both in the short and longer terms and that's obviously important.

"Most important of all however is the need for us to string a run of results together and that's what we are all hoping for."

City chairman Ken Ferguson added: "Some people may be surprised that we have extended Michael's contract, given the start we have had. However, we have great belief in Michael's ability and we are certain that we will be further up the second division later in the season, when it matters most.

"Those who have watched our matches this season will recognise how many times we've performed well without any reward. In the next quarter of the season, we are looking for more results as well as good performances and are certain Michael and his squad of players can deliver those results."
