BRECHIN City face Edinburgh City at Meadowbank Stadium on Saturday (3pm) and while the majority of City players may have never played at the former home of Meadowbank Thistle, who were subsequently moved and became Livingston FC, one Brechin player has many memories of cutting his teeth at the Commonwealth Stadium.

Due to work commitments, Dr Jon Seeley, will miss this weekend's game, but he said that his days at Edinburgh City were spent as a left-winger and not in his now more familiar role as a centre-half.

"I used to run up and down the left flank there and I know a number of the boys. They have some excellent players. Guys like Robbie Ross, who is their top goal scorer and who will be one of a number of guys who will be looking at this as a chance to show what they can do against an SFL club. There are a couple of decent players at the back as well. So anyone thinking this is going to be an easy passage to the next round had better think again!

"There was a time when the East of Scotland clubs maybe liked to keep things tight against league clubs and try and hit on the break. However, I think the progress my last club Spartans have made in the competition recently has changed all that and I don't expect City will be any different. I think they will come out and have a go. This is a big game for them and they will want to impress.

"We have to remember we have a lot of decent players too and all the boys want to make progress in the Scottish Cup and go as far as we can. While the priority is the league and we have a big game coming up against Ayr Utd, the Scottish Cup is great for players as it gets you away from the rigours of league games. It's also vital for the club as a whole, given the financial turmoil the business world is in at the minute.

"I am just sad I won't be there to see the game. I am actually on the graveyard shift at the Western General and am really annoyed that I won't be there to see a few old mates.

"But I hope it's a good game and while I wish my old club all the best for the rest of the season. I am obviously hoping Brechin City go through."
