Brechin City 2 Ayr United 3 - By Jon Bergen

Boy Oh Boy, today made me and every other Brechin City supporter PROUD to be a Brechin City Fan.

A injury hampered City squad rose to the challenge and played some of the grittiest football of the season. Had a few slightly unlucky breaks gone our way we may well have seen the team pull off the upset. Fighting an uphill battle after Wednesday nights match the lads dug in there heels and played some football that was worth the trip and the price of admission.

Ayr got the first goal of the match at about 15 minutes and though one would think that was pretty well the end of the journey, the battle had just started as the Boys fought back, put their injuries aside and put the pressure on the Ayr squad. At 38 minutes Rory McAllister got free with the ball and put the leveller into back of the net... that breathed life back into the fans and the travelling support got louder than the almost 1900 strong Ayr home support. Well City then pushed even more to then draw the foul in the box that allowed for a beautiful Rory penalty into the back of the net to put City up by 1 for the day.

City kept the pressure on and looked set to pull off a real chance as Rory broke free and worked his way forward to the goal and only the keeper was left to interfere, in an unlucky attempt the keeper snagged the ball just inches from the line.

Sadly in the 70th minute the injuries took their toll as there just was not quite enough speed to plug the holes and the equalizer for the day was slipped past Nelly. Just two minutes later the final goal was scored by a superb shot slotted past Brechin defence. One cannot find fault with that shot.

So it was all done but the celebration for Ayr. But let me tell you our boys still dug even deeper and played as if they still had a chance. Not a head stayed down and through the rest of the match those of us watching had a team we could be proud to cheer.

Way to Go BRECHIN CITY!!!

Someone else will get an actual match report out... in the mean time you can enjoy a fan's point of Pride in my team. And if this wasn't the official Club page I would be temped to chide the fans who missed out on a great effort but that wouldn't be nice so... LOL
