Brechin-St.Mirren Preview - By John Hoey

City’s final pre-season friendly takes place tomorrow night at the Glebe when Premier League St. Mirren come calling.

Paul McQuade, Darren McGregor and Gareth Wardlaw will all be familiar to Brechin fans as they were members of the Cowdenbeath side which clinched promotion to the First Division on the final match of last season.

Other players to look out for donning the Buddie’s colours are former Aberdeen and Dundee United defender Lee Mair, Scottish international goalkeeper Paul Gallacher and former Dundee United and Dundee winger Steven Robb.

City players who started their careers with St. Mirren include Mark Docherty, David McKenna and Craig Molloy who will all be in the frame to face their former club tomorrow night. Jim Weir though has a number of injury concerns to contend with. Jamie Redman and Calum Booth will definitely be missing and there are doubts concerning Barry Smith, Ewan Moyes and Kevin Byers, and in view of this, the manager may forced to call upon a couple of under 19 players to provide cover for tomorrow night’s game.

However, despite those problems, Jim has been delighted with the way the side’s pre-season preparations have gone.

“ I’ve been very pleased with the way things have gone so far,” he said.

“ The players have been excellent in training and they’ve been playing good football and scoring goals in the games they’ve played and that augurs well for the season ahead.”
