East Fife - Brechin City Preview - By John Hoey

Everyone at the club is looking forward to tomorrow’s opening fixture against East Fife in the opening round of the Alba Cup.

The team’s pre-season performances have been really impressive and there is an air of optimism that the team can enjoy a really good season.

Manager Jim Weir has a number of injury worries ahead of tomorrow’s game.

Midfielder Jamie Redman will definitely be missing. The ex Arbroath player who has recently underwent a hernia operation will visit a specialist again this coming Tuesday and it looks as if he may have to undergo a further operation.

Defenders Barry Smith, Calum Booth, Ewan Moyes and Gerry McGlauchlan are also all struggling with various injury problems and it will be a last-minute decision as to whether or not they’ll be fit to play.

Despite those concerns, the manager is very much looking forward to tomorrow’s game.

“ The players and myself can’t wait for the new season to begin,” he said.

“ The lads have been excellent in training and they have performed really well in our pre-season games.”

“ We were particularly impressive against Montrose and Stirling Albion and we’ll be looking to take that kind of form into tomorrow’s match.”

“ We have to ensure that we’re a difficult team to beat but we also want to be an entertaining side to watch. That’s what the supporters want to see and we’ll be trying our utmost to play the type of football that’s good to watch but which also delivers results.
