Brechin v Clyde preview. - By Steven Mew

Brechin are at home to Clyde tomorrow afternoon (10th September) in the Bell’s 1st division as the Bully Wee look to gain revenge at Glebe Park after City had knocked the Cumbernauld side out of the Bell’s Cup after extra time in the first competitive match of the season. Clyde showed great fight and spirit that day but defensive lapses let them down.

However, Roberts has tightened up the defence and the side are beginning to find some form and currently find themselves 4th in the league after 4 games, while Brechin are 5 places and 5 points below the Bully Wee. Roberts is working to maintain the momentum of a five game unbeaten spell, and have been boosted by the fact that they should have a full squad to choose from.

Roberts spoke to Clyde’s official website:

“All the lads came back refreshed and raring to go for the game on Saturday. Tom Brighton returned on Thursday from international duty and showed no ill effects from his travels.”

“Brechin will certainly be a test for us. They are a big, physical, experienced side but tomorrow represents a chance for us to show how much we have progressed since the first game of the season.” Since the transfer deadline Brechin have strengthened their squad further with the signature today of experienced forward Gerry Britton and the extension of Alex Burns’ contract. As well as Burns the ex Clyde camp is completed by Gary Bollan and Craig McEwan adding a further competitive edge to the game.”

City should have virtually a full squad to choose from barring Grant Johnson, who is suspended after his debatable sending off against St Mirren a fortnight ago and Craig McEwan, who has work commitments.

New signing Gerry Britton should be available for selection and Ian Campbell is hoping Brechin can get their first league victory of the season in order to propel themselves up the table.
