Dundee v Brechin Preview - By Steven Mew

Brechin travel a short distance down the A90 to take on Dundee at Dens Park tomorrow afternoon, still looking for their first win of the league campaign. City have played reasonably well in the last couple of matches and will consider themselves unfortunate not to have won down at Stranraer last Saturday after squandering a few excellent chances. That followed a spirited mid-week performance against St Mirren a few days earlier, where the Saints had to battle right to the end to get all three points.

Dundee have had a very dissapointing start to the season so far. The Dens Park side were expected to mount a serious title challenge but have found life in the 1st Division very difficult so far. Despite an excellent first day win at home to St Mirren, the season just hasn't taken off for the Dee's and they currently find themselves in the bottom half of the table.

Dundee and Brechin played each other on league duty at the start of last month at Glebe Park. City took a while to get out of 1st gear as Dundee stormed into a 3-0 lead just after the half-hour mark thanks to goals from Simon Lynch (2) and Steven Craig. A blistering volley from Stuart Callaghan gave City hope just before the break but it just wasn't to be.

City still have a few niggling injuries going into this match. Paul Deas and Alex Burns are almost definately out while a few players will undergo some late fitness tests to determine whether they can play or not. Craig Nelson is suspended for this match after recieving a straight red against Stranraer last Saturday for deliberate handball, therefore John Hillcoat will get his first competitive start for Brechin. John is determined to put on a good performance to help Brechin record their first win of the season and to stake a claim for a start between the sticks.

Dundee will be without Stephen McNally, Stuart McCluskey and former City favourite Derek Soutar for the Tayside derby. Defender Adrian Madachi and midfielder Jacinto Ela Eyene have left Dens Park after agreeing deals with the Club to terminate their contracts. Madachi was suffering from an injury which was likely to keep him out for the remainder of the season while Jacinto failed to make an impact.

The undersoil heating is on at Dens to try to ensure that Saturday's match against Brechin City will go ahead, the forecast is for sunshine on Saturday so the fixture shouldn't be in any real danger of being called off.
