Brechin v Morton Preview - By Steven Mew

Steven Ferguson
Ferguson-Out for 6 to 8 weeks.

City play host to fellow 2nd Division side Morton this evening in the 1st round of the CIS Insurance Cup.

Charlie King (Thigh) and Gary Bollan (Calf) are still sidelined for City although Kevin Byers should be fit to start. John Ward is also back after serving a one match suspension at Peterhead on Saturday and he will captain the side in Steven Ferguson’s absence after City learnt the tough tackling midfielder will be out for 6 to 8 weeks with a broken leg.

Ferguson hobbled off after only 6 minutes at Peterhead on Saturday and was replaced by trialist Richard Walker, who slotted into the side well and struck City’s equaliser to earn a share of the points. City’s management team and officials didn’t think the injury was too serious at first and were shocked to hear that the City skipper had broken his leg. With Ferguson out, O’Neill may have another look at Richard Walker against the Ton.

One positive from City’s draw from Peterhead last Saturday was the fitness of the players and they will be hoping to keep that up against the full-time outfit this evening.

Morton have midfielder Kevin Finlayson out injured while Jamie Stevenson, who has impressed greatly since signing from Alloa in the summer, is extremely doubtful for the visitors. However, the versatile Peter Weatherson returns to the side after suspension.

Supporters are reminded that this match has a 7:45pm kick off. The referee for this match will be Callum Murray, with assistants Willie Conquer and Cammy McKay.
