Stuart Ferguson
Update On Injuries
It was refreshing to see Stuart Ferguson make a brief substitute appearance against Morton yesterday afternoon. Stuart hasn’t made an appearance since the win against Peterhead at Glebe Park mid-way through October. Meanwhile, Darren Smith returned to the side yesterday after picking up a knock in the victory over Ayr at the start of the month and was magnificent against Morton. John Ward missed the game yesterday but should be back in the side for the trip to Peterhead next week. As you may already know, experienced midfielder Grant Johnson will probably not feature until February but City gaffer Michael O’Neill is hopeful that Johnson will return a little earlier but it’s going to take him a while to return to full fitness once he has recovered.
Many Happy Returns ‘Hilly’
Many happy returns to goalkeeper John Hillcoat, who turned 36 yesterday. It would have given John great satisfaction to see City beat the league leaders and you may have seen his reaction when City missed a great chance to equalise late on against the ‘Ton. John still has a massive influence, whether in the team or not.
Well done ‘Wardy’
Congratulations to vice captain John Ward, who has been leading the team in Stevie Ferguson’s absence. ‘Wardy’ notched his second goal of the season in the cup against Preston Athletic last Saturday and his performances of late have been nothing short of tremendous. No doubt John would welcome another counter in the next round at Central Park, when he takes on his former team mates.
Peterhead Next Saturday
A reminder to supporters that City are in action on Saturday as they travel up to Balmoor to take on 7th placed Peterhead. The game was originally scheduled for Boxing Day but the club received a request from Peterhead FC to bring the game forward to the 23rd of December. The kick-off time remains at 3:00pm. Peterhead are now under the guidance of former Aberdeen manager Steve Paterson and ex Ross County gaffer Neale Cooper.
Congratulations ‘Beany’
Congratulations to striker Iain Russell who netted his 6th and 7th goals of the season against Morton at the week-end. Iain is now joint top scorer at the top along with midfielder Stuart Callaghan, but you have to bear in mind that the vast majority of Stuart’s goals were penalties. After a slow start Iain has picked up and has netted 7 goals in the last 6 games he has taken part in. Hopefully Iain can continue this rich vein of form into the festive period.
Match-Day Programme
A reminder to regular buyers of the match-day programme, due to printer’s holidays, we will be publishing a single issue to cover the visit of Cowdenbeath on 30th December and the local derby against Forfar Athletic just 3 days later.
