Brechin City were knocked out at the semi-final stage of the Forfarshire Cup against St Johnstone in a game very much of "two half's".

A City side, which included just one player who had started the game at Cowdenbeath on Saturday, went down by three goals to one at the hands of St Johnstone in the Forfarshire Cup at McDiarmid Park on Tuesday night.

Star performer for City was undoubtedly 17 year-old débutante, Chris Hughes, who, if he keeps his feet on the ground, looks like having a big future ahead of him. Hughes gave an assured performance in his first appearance in a red jersey.

Owen Coyle gave St Johnstone the lead and a Steven Anderson header made it 2-0. However, Steven Hampshire pulled a goal back before half-time.

Davie White and Chris Geddes both went close to levelling the score in the second period, before the Saints tied the game up with a sweetly struck free-kick from Portugese star, Filipe Morais in the 70th minute.

Midway through the second half, Michael O'Neill introduced a familiar looking "Trialist", who was rumoured to have turned out for his country on more than 30 occasions!

St Johnstone now meet Arbroath in the final.
