City manager Michael O'Neill has announced that both Martin Johnston and Gary Fusco have signed for the club on a 2 year deal and a 1 year contract respectively. Meanwhile, a number of players have also extended their deals at the club.

Martin Johnston finished as top scorer in Division 3 with 18 goals in the league, playing for Elgin City who were struggling near the bottom of the table throughout the season. Martin's contract was up at Elgin and O'Neill moved quickly to capture the signature of Johnston, beating off the competition of a number of lower league clubs. Johnston, formerly of Cove Rangers and Peterhead, is a brave, strong mobile striker who can defend when required and is always a threat at set pieces. Johnston scored 25 goals in his last season with Cove Rangers and he also netted over 60 goals in his time with Peterhead. He was also the top scorer in the 3rd division in season 2005/06 and was voted player of the year.

Gary Fusco was a regular in the Cowdenbeath side last season that met Brechin six times in total over the course of the season. Fusco joined Cowdenbeath in 2002 from junior club Musselburgh Athletic. Gary can play anywhere in the middle of the park and can also fit in at right back if needed. He has moulded into one of the best central midfielders in the lower leagues and will be looking to make a real impact at Glebe Park.

Meanwhile, Adam Nelson, a team mate of Johnston at Elgin, has had discussions with the club but has not yet signed a deal. Adam is a midfielder with an outstanding first touch and tremendous vision. He also gets his fair share of goals and is a player with a fine football brain.

City fans will also be delighted to hear that a number of key players have signed new contracts at the club, or are very close to doing so.

Central defenders Scott Walker and John Ward have both signed 1 year deals to keep them at the club for another season. Walker signed for the club in the summer of 2004 and has been ever present in the side that picked up the 2nd division Championship in his first season. Ward meanwhile, signed for the club last summer and has impressed with his no-nonsense attitude at the back.

Another central defender in the shape of Chris Hughes has signed a one year deal at the club. Hughes is only 17 years of age and has shown great promise and like a fine wine he will improve as he gets older. He will provide great competition for starting places in defence.

Goalkeeper Craig Nelson, who was outstanding between the sticks for City last season, has pledged his future to the club by signing a two year deal. Another player who has signed on is right back David Murie, who has put pen to paper on a one year deal. Murie joined the club earlier in the season from Stenhousemuir in a straight swap for Craig McEwan.

Stuart Callaghan, who won player of the year last season, is currently in discussions on a one year deal. Meanwhile, Grant Johnson, who missed much of last season through injury, will consider his future over the Summer. City gaffer Michael O'Neill is hopeful that Grant will return to the club in some capacity.

The manager has also stated that Steven McManus has not left the club, and like Matthew Flynn, he will be given the pre-season to earn a new contract.

Players that have left the club since the end of the season are: Steven Ferguson, John Hillcoat & Steven Hampshire (All Stenhousemuir), Ross Archibald (Work commitments), Scott Devlin and Stuart Ferguson. We wish them all the best in their future careers.
