Player of the Year Candidates

The Second Division Player of the Year candidates have been announced. City's Steve Hampshire is one of the nominees, along with former striker Chris Templeman. Paul Shields of Forfar and Paul Walker of Morton make up the quartet.
Often it turns out that the top scorer in the division wins the award. Chris Templeman will therefore start as favourite to regain the award he won two seasons ago. Sanny enjoyed a rich run of form earlier in the season, prompting Morton Chairman Douglas Rae to get the cheque book out and make Brechin and the player offers they couldn't refuse. Since joining the Ton, goals have been harder to come by but he has helped keep Morton in promotion contention.
Steve Hampshire ensures that the champions elect have a nomination. Hamps will be hoping his penalty miss on Saturday doesn't influence the judges too much! Joking aside, he has been magnificent for Brechin this season - particularly since Templeman left. With questions being asked as to who would fill big Sanny's boots, Hampshire stood up and was counted with some crucial goals.
Paul Shields was a player Dick Campbell tried to sign at one point, but he chose Forfar ahead of joining City. He has been on devastating goalscoring form of late, taking the Loons from the relegation zone to pretty much safety - although they still need a few more points to guarantee that. He is certainly one Brechin's defenders will need to watch out for on the last day of the season, when the Championship could be at stake.
Paul Walker is perhaps the surprise nomination of the four. He is a tricky forward who joined the Inverclyde club from Partick Thistle.
